Read a rich-text document

Open or drop a local .rtf file to read its formatted pages, select and copy text, or search the document. Use the page field to jump, fit the page to the available space, and enter focus reading to give the document more room. Close or replace the file to cancel opening and release its resources.

What the preview supports

The viewer supports common paragraph formatting, emphasis, font sizes, colors, lists, simple tables, and embedded PNG or JPEG pictures. Unicode escapes and many older Windows and East Asian character encodings are supported. Pages are laid out in this browser; their breaks and fonts can differ from the original editor. Text selection and search cover the current preview, including any text split across its pages.

Headers, footers, footnotes, stylesheet inheritance, section settings, merged or nested tables, shapes, equations, and text boxes have incomplete support. Some metafile pictures can show an embedded bitmap; vector drawings may show a placeholder. Complex scripts and right-to-left documents may render incorrectly. Known omissions appear under Preview limitations. Use a dedicated word processor when original layout or missing content matters. DOC, DOCX, and plain-text files need their own viewers.

Local files and browser resources

Document contents stay in this browser. Embedded applications do not run, links are not followed, and linked pictures or other remote document resources are not fetched. There are no product file-size or page-count limits. Large documents and pictures can still exceed the browser’s memory or canvas capacity; reduce zoom for an oversized page, or use a device with more memory.
